How the ETF ROI calculator works
This calculator runs the same monthly-compounding projection used throughout this site, then adds two figures focused specifically on return: total ROI, and an approximate CAGR (compound annual growth rate). Total ROI is estimated investment growth divided by total contributions, shown as a percentage. Approximate CAGR treats your total money invested as if it were one lump sum growing steadily to the final value, giving an intuitive annualized figure — though it typically reads lower than your assumed return whenever you're making ongoing contributions, since later contributions have less time to compound.
